Children Living with Grandparents or Other Relatives

There are a variety of living arrangements for children in Vermont, including in households where a grandparent or other relative is the designated head of household. This data could include children who are officially placed in kinship care by the Department for Children and Families, children living in unofficial kinship care, and situations where a parent and child are living together with another relative.

The chart below shows the percentage of children living in a household with a grandparent or other relative as the head of household.

Please note: The data are five-year estimates from the American Community Survey (ACS). Please only compare non-overlapping datasets (for example: compare 2005-2009 ACS five-year estimates to 2010-2014 ACS five-year estimates).
