Deborah Singiser is an educator—in the broadest sense of the word. As a practitioner—teacher, trainer and coach—she has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in formal school settings and for organizations in the U.S. and overseas. As an administrator at Castleton University, she developed and led collaborative teams to create an inclusive learning environment for a new and diverse student population from 19 countries. As an educational leader, Deborah has been a school board chair for 6+ years, leading the governance process for the Barstow Unified Union School District and serving on the Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union board.
Deborah is currently employed by the Vermont School Boards Association (VSBA) as the Director of Board Services. Prior to joining the VSBA in 2023, Deborah was founder and principal of a small business working with middle and high school students to match who they are with potential “right fit” careers through custom coaching and school-based programs. She moved back to Vermont in 2011 with her young family after having a 25-year career in international development in seven countries (Bosnia, Cambodia, Croatia, Ethiopia, France, Jamaica, and Nepal) working in human rights, post-war reconstruction and reconciliation, public health, agriculture, wildlife conservation, and education, with a particular focus on women and girls. Holding a BA from Smith College and a MA from Columbia University, Deborah is credentialed by the National Career Development Association as a Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP) and is a Student Career Development Advisor and Academy Certified Resume Writer.
